If you want the best shot at winning a job, you want to understand how employers approach selecting a person for a job.

So here's how it works at most companies...

1st - A Job Becomes Open or is Newly Created: A hiring manager needs someone to do a specific job. So they create a job description that describes the skills they're looking for. They then give this job description to their human resource department or their internal recruiting department to look for candidates who match these specific job skills. 

TIP: When you apply for a posted job, your résumé or CV must use similar buzz words that match the hiring managers job description. Many companies actually use a computer program to weed through résumés first, and select only the ones that match the job description closely.  In your résumé, it's best to use the same types of words and phrases that they use in their job description, if you want a chance to land an interview.

2nd - A Search Is Conducted To Find Potential Candidates: The company's human resource department or recruiting department searches in a variety of places including, internal candidates, past applicants, they post the description on Internet job sites, publish job openings in newspapers...and so on. As word gets out about this job opening the human resources/recruiting department is flooded with applications, cover letters, and résumés. 

 

TIP: You need to post your cover letter and résumé on all the best on- line job sites where employers look for candidates. Most people know about Dice.com, Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com and a few others, but there are over 50 really great sites I recommend. Plus, you want to know how to find all the hidden and new jobs that are just opening up, so there is less competition for you.  I can show you where to find these.

3rd - Over 90% of Potential Candidates Are Purposely Eliminated Up Front: The human resource/recruiting department (either manually or by using an automated program), searches through the mountain of responses and tries to find résumés that best match the original job description they are hiring for. Many of the best candidates are ruled out without a chance, simply because they did not put the right information in their résumé. The hiring company eliminates the vast majority of applicants and selects the top 10 that seem to fit best, and forward these résumés on to the hiring manager for his or her review. 

 

TIP:Again, your cover letter and résumé must match the job description closely, using the right buzz words that the hiring company is looking for, if you want any chance of being picked for an interview.

 

4th - The Top Cover Letter/Résumé Writers Make It To The Hiring Managers Desk: The hiring manager reads through the greatly reduced number of applications, cover letters and résumés, the few that made it to his or her desk. Then based on the most outstanding cover letters and résumés, a handful of select candidates (who did everything right to this point) are invited to interview. The Human Resources /Recruiting department then schedules these for a phone, or  face-to-face interview with the hiring manager.

 

5th - The Best Interview Wins: The initial phone or initial face-to-face interview is designed to weed out all but the top 2 or 3 candidates.  Once these top candidates are selected, the hiring manager will have a second interview scheduled with these remaining candidates. This ruling out process is repeated until the final interview, after which the winner is selected. A verbal job offer is generally made to the top candidate after the final interview, and any negotiations for salary or benefits are discussed at this time.  

 

TIP: To win the interview and get a job offer, you have to know exactly what to say and do, and what you must never say or do. The Interviewer is approaching this from his or her perspective and will scrutinize everything you say and do. You have to be at your best in every aspect (I can show you some simple techniques that work like magic for helping you be at your best).You also want to know things like how to gain instant rapport with the hiring manager, getting them to like you,  to trust you, and getting them to really really want to hire you!

  

*6th - The Job Is Filled and Is No Longer Available: Out of the initial 200, 300, 500 or more résumés this hiring company received for a single job opening, only one person got a job! The hiring manager has an offer letter generated based on the terms agreed upon, and the offer is sent to the one and only winner of this particular job.

 

The Six Things You Must Know "and" Do To Land A Job Quickly...     Here's exactly what you need to know and do to land a job in today's world...   1. You need to know where to find jobs, especially the hidden job openings that few people know about. You need to know all the most advanced job search methods, secrets, and insider tips to find available jobs.   2.
