Career Search - Advice and Tips...

Are you fully prepared to conduct an effective job search? Would you like a little career search help? You’ve come to the right place. The following steps will help you conduct an effective and successful job search...

With so many career search websites and career search engines available, many job seekers are getting focused on the wrong things. Too often they’re chasing after the wrong opportunities instead of having a clear plan that will help them succeed.

I would like to begin this article with a mini career search quiz. Here you go...

1. Have you completed a comprehensive self assessment to determine the type of career you can be successful and happy doing?

2. Have you researched potential employers that provide the type of career you can be successful doing?

3. Have you created a list of target employers you want to go after?

4. Have you prepared career search materials and developed the skills you need for an effective job search?

5. Have you created a plan for your job search campaign?

6. Do you have a dedicated amount of time each day to commit to your job search?

If you answered yes to all of the questions above then you’re ready to proceed to your nearest career search engine where you can begin your job search. If you have not completed the six steps above, you may want to do them first before you send your resume all over the place.

As the old saying goes an ounce of preparation is worth a pound of cure. you would be absolutely amazed how many people approach their search for a new career with very little thought or preparation whatsoever. Not so surprising though, is that many people have a very difficult time finding a job simply because they lack the planning, preparation, and commitment to go after it in a way that they can succeed.

Of course the most important point in this article is found in the very first step. How can you find a better job, an ideal job for you, if you don’t know what your ideal career is? If you don’t want to settle for just another job, this first step is critically important to your happiness and success in the career world.

An effective career search begins with knowing what you’re searching for! The best advice I can give you here is to do the following...

1. Take an industry standard career assessment to identify careers that may be a match for you.

2. Take an industry-standard personality profile to make sure any careers you’re considering are a good match for your personality as well.

3. Make a list of all the things you enjoy doing, the things that turn you on, that are fun to do, and look for careers that may involve some of these activities.

4. Evaluate and make a list of your greatest strengths and your greatest weaknesses. Try to look for career options that play to your strengths and that avoid your weaknesses.

5. Make a list of your greatest accomplishments and look for trends that might provide clues of where you can be successful.

Once you complete the five steps listed above, dedicate a couple of hours to go through your career assessment, your personality assessment, your strengths and weaknesses, your likes and interests, and your accomplishments. Examine them thoroughly right before you go to bed in the evening. Then just before you fall asleep, ask yourself the following question; What would be the ideal career for me where I can be happy, successful, and where I can benefit others in the process?

You may be surprised when you wake up in the middle of the night with a great revelation of the ideal career for you! Don’t worry if you don’t get an answer on your first try, just keep trying it every night for seven evenings in a row. By the end of those seven days you will know for sure what you should be doing for a successful career!

Once you’ve identified your dream career you’ll know exactly what you’re going after. Then you can prepare your search by following the other tips in this article to make sure you land a better job than you’ve ever had before.

Success in any venture is a process. It has very little to do with being smart or lucky. Trust me, as a former ninth-grade dropout who now make six figures, I can tell you that success is indeed just a process. Once you know the right steps to take, all you have to do is act on them. Lack of planning and lack of action leads to failure. And the great news is you can control those two things.

So don’t wait another minute. Get organized, create a plan, and act on it. You will be so glad you did!

If you follow the steps outlined in this article you will be well prepared for a very successful career search .
